Health & Eye Care Program

This program seeks to provide quality health and eye care services to the rural and urban poor through free community health outreaches. In Sub Saharan Africa, millions live with HIV/AIDS, children frequently die from malaria, many women die during pregnancy or childbirth, and thousands of new cases of tuberculosis are diagnosed every year. The Blessing Foundation is working hard to assist in reducing the deadly effects of these preventable diseases by reaching into the remote villages to provide the essential medical services to mothers and children and others who could not afford the services. Our out-patient medical outreaches focus on treating tropical and common diseases such as malaria, typhoid, diabetes, high blood pressure, wounds, skin problems, and hepatitis. Our chaplains and dedicated workers also offer prayers to these patients.

Public Education

The Blessing Foundation also educates mothers on the role of breastfeeding and immunization, safe hygiene practices, the importance of nutrition, drinking clean water, and sanitation. Emphasis is on teaching individuals to control causes of diseases because poor hygiene is a leading cause of illness such as diarrhea which could lead to sudden death, especially in infants. Poverty and lack of education make it difficult for parents in some villages to teach personal hygiene. Some schools also have difficulty promoting proper hygiene because they lack the funds and infrastructure. The Blessing Foundation teaches personal hygiene to adults through organized village outreaches and provides instruction to children on hand washing, bathing, teeth brushing, and physical neatness.

Health Interventions

We assist to improve immunization coverage and nutritional status among the rural poor, provide insecticide treated nets, set up screening programs for common diseases and malignancies, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer and tuberculosis, de-worming of school-age children, and provide ante-natal clinic services for expectant mothers. The program also offers voluntary counseling and testing services for HIV/AIDS.

Eye Care

Through partnership with vision care organizations, we also provide free eye care outreaches in the interior villages and towns of Africa using local Opticians and Ophthalmologists. We focus on providing general eye exams, prescribe and provide prescriptions, and, provide reading eyeglasses.

Program Goals

Each year we carry out health care outreaches in the interior towns and villages of Africa. During each mission outreach, The Blessing Foundation focuses on dispensing outpatient medication with permission from governmental health agencies of respective countries. We also dispense approximately 2,000 to 3,000 prescription and reading eyeglasses each year. The majority of our eye-care ministry presently takes place in Uganda, The Blessing Foundation’s Africa headquarters.
Plans are also in place to expand these services to other African countries. There is a high demand for the services we offer across Africa because most low-income individuals and families on the Continent cannot afford medical and eye treatment. As a result, the underserved in Africa could live with undiagnosed illnesses the entirety of their lives and die with poor health conditions. In our endeavors, we are aware that sometimes one person helped could be a family preserved.

Future Projects

In 2022, the construction will begin for our latest project, a healthcare center. The Blessing Foundation Health Center in Buujuko, Mpigi District Uganda will focus on women, children and eye care in addition to providing general outpatient care.  This project will be situated in about 1-acre property owned by TBF.
